I’ve whitened my teeth a few different times over the years.
First, I tried the classic whitening strips method which wasn’t perfect because they don’t cover your back teeth & can slip around on you. The results were okay but the whole process was a bit messy.
Next, I stepped it up & had my dentist make molds of my teeth to create custom trays & whitening gel that you kept in your fridge. This whitening method worked a lot better but was a very pricey process. Like hundreds of dollars pricey! It also made my teeth more sensitive which I didn’t love.
So in the last few years, I’ve whitened on & off whenever I felt my teeth were looking a bit shabby & I had the extra cash to burn, but I couldn’t keep it consistent.
Then I was introduced to Smile Brilliant!
(FYI: Giveaway & Discount Code at the end of this post!)
Smile Brilliant Overview:
First, you receive a mold kit in the mail with your whitening solutions.
YES. you will be making your own molds of your teeth. Don’t worry, the instructions are easy to follow & the whole process took me less than 30 minutes.
Then you just wait for the molds to harden before you ship them to the lab where they make your impression trays.
Smile Brilliant supplies the shipping packet & postage is pre-paid.
You will get a confirmation email when the lab receives your molds & when your trays are being shipped to you.
Once you receive your custom trays, the whitening begins!
Because I knew I had tooth sensitivity, I stuck to 45 min.-1 hr. for whitening. That being said, you can go up to 3 hours.
The gel simply goes on the front of your trays and you pop them in.
The you remove the trays, brush your teeth & apply the desensitizing gel for 20 minutes.
Rinse again & you’re good to go!
A Few Tips:
I whitened at night after dinner, so I knew I would not be interrupted by hunger pains ( FYI: You can’t eat or drink for 30 minutes after,) errands, plans with friends, etc….
Make sure your teeth are brushed beforehand for even distribution.
If some gel seeps over the tray onto your gums, use a piece of wet paper towel or Q-tip to clean off the excess & prevent gum irritation.
In between my whitening days I used the desensitizing gel again, which I applied the same way & left on for 20 minutes. (I think this was my favorite part because I really noticed a difference in how less sensitive my teeth were this time around.)
Lastly, if you don’t loath it, try drinking coffee, wine, (really anything that could re-stain your teeth,) with a straw while you are using the kit. (This personally worked the best for me, but by no means is it a must!)
Final Thoughts:
Overall, the process was simple if not a slight bit time consuming (if you go for several hours) but, if you can do it at night, you shouldn’t find it impacting your ability to go about your business.
The trays were quite comfortable & light weight so I had no issues talking.
I loved how quickly I started noticing results (while my teeth were decently white to begin with,) I noticed how much more even they looked, especially in between my teeth where I get the most staining.
